A Philadelphia groom who was enjoying a wedding reception was mugged when he stepped outside.
The groom, identified as Omar Johnson, was attacked by a man who was trying to steal his car after he left the reception at Roxy’s bar in South Philadelphia.
Johnson said he left the bar at 10:30 p.m. Thursday and walked to his car in the middle of his reception.
As he stood outside, a man grabbed him by the neck and shoved him against the wall. The man ordered him to hand over his wallet.
When Johnson did not immediately hand over his wallet, the man then pulled his gun and shot him in the stomach. Johnson tried to fight back and hit the man with his cell phone. He ended up taking out his gun and firing at the man.
The man ran away and found a second car that was running on the street and stole it.
The groom was taken to University Hospital where he is expected to recover from his gunshot wound and is under police protection.
Philadelphia police have not made any arrests in the incident and are still looking for the suspect.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the venue where the wedding reception was held rented the car to Johnson for the event.
Johnson’s brother tweeted at Philadelphia police asking them to help find the shooter.
This is truly a sad story. I pray that my bro, who was wounded, makes a quick recovery! @PhillyPolice please call us. pic.twitter.com/gr8PLhQCYw — NightGonzalez (@nightgonzalez) November 2, 2018
